The Haddocks bought what was several hundred acres of beautiful timber land directly across the highway from us, and put in chicken houses. We didn't mind any of it. If they were awakened in the middle of the night, there was always the possibility of them slipping out, leaving the house, and getting lost in the woods. This was very loud, and wake up everyone in the house including my grandmother. She was unable to understand what was happening due to the dementia, would become very upset, which then became a struggle to get her back to sleep. Whoever it was, didn't have a concern for anyone else in the world. They knew they were waking up half the neighborhood drag racing into town at that hour of the morning, they obviously didn't care how it affected everyone else around them, and they didn't care if they tore up their engine doing it. It was difficult enough to see her digressing and slowly dying before our eyes, and the morning interruption meant she couldn't even get a full night of rest. It was pretty infuriating, and it created feelings of helplessness.
